Wine Induced Musing by Steve Lightner
Each Friday when I have something to add about the Vineyard or Wine, and political events have not totally distracted me from the truly important things in life, I will write about the progress in the vineyard, some information on making wine, and of course, about great wines or cuisine I have experienced.
Lightner Vineyards is a small 3 acre vineyard near Camino (Apple Hill) California where I grow Syrah, Mourvedre, Grenache, Viognier, and Counoise and produces about 5 tons of grapes each year. It is at an elevation of 3000' taking advantage of a longer growing season and cooler nights.

Alice:
Hi, Steve. This is a beautiful picture. You live in paradise, it appears. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving. Our kids were here for Thanksgiving, and just as I’m resuming a semblance of a routine, the first round of holiday festivities has begun. Can we just jump over December and go straight to Jan. 20? I’ve been catching up on your blog, and I have to say, reading a week’s worth is like trying to drink from a fire hose!! I find myself making mental notes along the way to respond to some point, only to have another even better point supplant the previous one, and so on and so on. Like you, I am watching with amusement and consternation as the conservatives and even some of his supporters search for a way to pick Obama apart on his appointments. You are right about the Clinton alumni in his cabinet. They are all skilled, experienced people. I recall that Jimmy Carter tried to bring in his cohort from Georgia with disastrous results, and even Clinton made a few similar mistakes–like Mac McLarty for Chief of Staff. The “kids” helped Obama get elected, but they are not going to get immediate gratification. In fact, delayed gratification is a good lesson for them to learn. Education, experience, critical thinking skills, patience and discipline, all of which have been lacking in the administration of the last eight years, are about to be the rule of the day in the White House. Let the people say, “Amen!” and “Halleliua!”
